Mark K. Roberts

I began my graphics career during my senior year in college in 1976, working evenings in the print shop for the Exxon Corporation. In June, I accepted a sales and marketing position with Frito Lay / Pepsico, where I learned valuable customer relations and satisfaction techniques which I practice to this day. In 1979, I met an "old-time" hand lettering artist in Baytown, Texas. His name was Grant "Tiger" Miller - a feisty "old-school tough guy" - on the outside. After numerous visits with Tiger and hanging around his sign shop every chance I could get,  I finally decided take the "full time" plunge into the sign business. The early years were a struggle, due to the fact that all signs were hand lettered, and I was still an "apprentice" sign artist. I made a commitment to succeed in this business!

In 1982, I was introduced to dimensional sandblasted signs at a "Letterhead" meet, hosted by Mike Jackson, in Moore, Oklahoma. In addition to meeting Mike Jackson, I also met Butch "Superfrog" Anton, Noel Weber, Mike Stevens, Bob Mitchell, Raymond Chapman and Stephen Parish - all great influences on my career. It was at this fortuitous event where I discovered my true calling in this business- Dimensional Signs! I now specialize in dimensional signage of all kinds, featuring highly customized thematic park and retail display signs. We have produced thousands of these signs for satisfied clients across the United States,  Europe, Central and South America.

In 1990, Sign Business magazine published a feature story on my sign company, The InterSign Group. Two months later, I was hired by the same magazine to contribute monthly "how-to" articles covering all aspects of commercial sign production.

In 1991, I was hired by National Business Media to teach two seminars, Sign Pricing, and Negotiation Tactics, as well as the original "Hands-On" Sandblasted Sign Workshop.

Shortly thereafter, I had the privilege of teaching my seminars to the United States Sign Council, the International Sign Association, Advantage Sign Supply, The Signery corporation, Products Sign Supply Co., Street Art Supply, Signs Plus U.S.A., and the Sign Biz corporation.  In addition to holding my own Letterhead event in 1991, I have taught classes at several other Letterhead meetings and sign supply distributor "open houses" across the country.

In 1992, I began my own multimedia publishing company, to serve the needs of my seminar students. As of today I offer three audio CD’s, two software template CD’s, seven video programs, three "e" books, and five manuals on sign company marketing.  I  also appeared in the Lord Adhesive Corporation's corporate sales video as an industry spokesman.

In 1997, I began my monthly newsletter, Prosperity Pricing and Mega Marketing for the Success Motivated Sign Company to help my fellow sign professionals in their marketing efforts.  I also joined the media team at my church, Sagemont Baptist, where I operate various video production machines.

In the year 2000, I joined the National Speakers Association.

In August, 2001, I was hired  as a monthly columnist for Sign Builder Illustrated magazine. You may read my articles online at www.signshop.com  Just click on the current monthly issue and turn the pages.

In November 2004,  I  was honored by the United States Sign Council as the First Place National Award Winner in the carved sign/ gold leaf category.

In November 2006, I released my latest book, 45 Tips to Double Your Profits and Triple Your Pleasure in Your Sign and Graphics Business.

In October 2007, I became a Roland evaluation test site, testing the Roland Versa Camm VP-540. Awesome Machine!

Of course I still make signs! To see some examples of sign products produced by our company, visit my sign company site. theintersigngroup.com. We offer a wide range of sign products which can be purchased wholesale by sign company owners everywhere.

I have been married to my best friend and business partner, Sherry Lynn Pursley,  for 30 years, and we were blessed with two children....Tiffany and Grant - the two cute kids on the right.

Tiffany is a Paralegal in a  law firm in downtown Houston.

Grant is a graduate of the University of Houston - Clear Lake, and is a design engineer for a NASA contractor. He also contributes as a part-time creative assistant at the The InterSign Group.

I enjoy my daily walks in the park adjacent to my home with my Beagles - Clyde & George, writing, producing and editing videos, volunteering in my church media department, traveling and snorkeling through the beautiful islands of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, the Molokini crater,  the Caribbean and Roatan Honduras, as well as hiking, treasure hunting and exploring the beautiful states of Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Colorado, and Alaska.

So, if you want to talk about signs, the sign business, dogs, snorkeling, acrobatic flying, video, the Houston Astros or Houston Texans....or perhaps something else, Give me a call @ 800-547-4332
